Why do you live in a smaller home?

A few years ago we were living in a neighborhood that we loved but we were really feeling like spreading out a bit on some property. We imagined raising our children in the country where they could run free and get dirty. We wanted to raise some animals and build our own home. At one point we had house plans drawn up for a larger house but when we added up the numbers, it just didn't make much sense. We just realized we didn't want the big house payment but rather the experience of living on the property and starting a little farm. So we decided to build this little house under 1200 sq. ft. which we could possibly add-on to or build a larger home on the property in the future.

Small Space Living- KITCHEN- Where do you keep all the small appliances?
To be honest, even though we have a small home, I designed the layout of the house it to have a larger kitchen. We have open shelving to make things feel bigger and more open and all of our kitchen storage is drawers which I love. We keep our toaster on the counter, my kitchen aid mixer I store under the sink, and the only other small appliances are our food processor and blender which go in drawers.
